The building that houses the JW Marriott Hotel in Madrid, located in the prestigious Plaza de Canalejas, holds the highest level of heritage protection under the city’s urban planning regulations. Its architectural uniqueness, historical value, and strategic location required a highly specialized intervention, combining rigorous conservation criteria with contemporary construction solutions. The rehabilitation involved a comprehensive operation across the entire property, preserving protected elements—such as facades, the load-bearing structure, monumental staircases, and interior decorative features—while integrating new technical systems in a manner compatible with the building’s heritage character.
One of the project’s main challenges was the execution of a complex structural intervention, enabling the adaptation of the building’s original layout to its new function as a five-star hotel operating under the highest international standards of quality and comfort. The project included the redistribution of interior spaces, the insertion of vertical circulation cores, and the complete renovation of infrastructure systems, all while ensuring structural stability and compliance with current regulations.
