Conjunto Monumental de San Andrés

San Andrés Monumental Complex

The restoration of the Church of San Andrés and the Chapel of the Bishop, one of the oldest monumental ensembles in historic Madrid, was approached as a comprehensive intervention aimed at preserving material authenticity, ensuring structural stability, and reinstating its liturgical function. Works at San Andrés included the repair of roofs, load-bearing walls, brick façades, and stone elements, using traditional techniques compatible with original materials, along with upgrades to building systems, accessibility, and safety.

At the Chapel of the Bishop, a prime example of late Gothic architecture in Madrid, the intervention focused on the recovery of its unique architectural character and rich ornamental program—plasterwork, altarpieces, tombs, and ironwork—through specialized conservation efforts. The project was carried out under archaeological supervision and in coordination with heritage authorities, enabling the rehabilitation of one of medieval Madrid’s most significant spaces and reinforcing its cultural and spiritual value.
