Biblioteca Eugenio Trías

Eugenio Trías Library

The transformation of the former Casa de Fieras (House of Beasts) in Madrid’s Retiro Park into the Eugenio Trías Public Library involved an ambitious architectural rehabilitation project, aimed at converting a historic zoological facility into a leading cultural venue. The project encompassed the full restoration of the original pavilions, preserving their volumetric configuration, original brickwork, and distinctive elements such as enclosures, metal structures, and ironwork, while incorporating new functional volumes to house reading areas, lending services, archives, and auxiliary spaces for the library. Special attention was given to the conservation of the historic character of the complex, in harmony with the protected landscape of Retiro Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
