The rehabilitation of the building that houses The Madrid Edition Hotel, located next to Plaza de las Descalzas Reales, involved the comprehensive transformation of a pre-existing property—formerly owned by Caja Madrid—into a five-star luxury hotel under the international Edition brand of Marriott. The intervention combined structural reinforcement and selective modifications with the new construction of service cores, and included a complete reorganization of the interior layout to accommodate guest rooms, suites, common areas, dining spaces, a swimming pool, rooftop terrace, and leisure facilities. The project integrated state-of-the-art installations and high-end finishes throughout.
The structural intervention posed significant challenges, given the need to adapt an existing building to a new use with high technical and functional requirements, while preserving its volume and optimizing both energy and acoustic performance. New vertical circulation cores were introduced, floor slabs were reinforced, and construction systems were adapted to comply with current regulations—ensuring compatibility between the original structure and the new elements. The project also included the restoration of the Baroque stone façade by Pedro de Ribera, originally built in granite in the 16th century.
